Our Past Salvation

Search the scriptures and you’ll find the true answers to the following questions…

1.    At what point does a person become “saved” (born-again)?

2.    What happens when a person becomes born-again?

3.    How does a person become “unsaved” (lose their salvation)?

At what point does a person become “saved” (born-again)?

Romans 10:9-13

…If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

We are saved (born again) by an act of God when we put our faith in Christ.

We are not saved by good works, we are not saved by sincere attempts to not sin, we are not saved by speaking in tongues, by our emotions or our intellect. Search the scriptures and you’ll see that we are saved (born again) by an act of God when we put our faith in Christ.

What happens when a person becomes born-again?

Salvation is a one time act executed by God. It’s a miraculous, spiritual transformation that is preformed solely by God. It’s a transformation that cannot be enhanced or improved by human effort. By God’s miraculous workmanship, the sinner is literally changed into a saint. This transformation includes:

1)    Receiving the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing salvation (2 Corinthians 1:22; 2 Corinthians 5:5)

2)    Receiving a new life (being born-again) by God (1 Peter 1:3)

3)    Becoming a new spiritual creation (2 Corinthians 5:16-18)

God does something supernatural to change us when we put our faith in Christ. He anoints us, sets his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in us as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come (2 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5). As born-again children of God, we’re no longer dead in our sins but FOREVER alive in Christ! And, to seal the deal as new, eternal creations in Christ, God not only deposits his Spirit in us, he also seats up in the heavenly realms with Christ (Ephesians 2:5-7).

How does a person become “unsaved” (lose their salvation)?

How can a person undo what God has done? How can a person remove the Holy Spirit or make God’s Holy Spirit leave them? God said that he will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) Based on this one promise alone there is no way for a person to undo what God has done. We have been given to Jesus and nothing can either snatch us or sever our eternal union with Christ. (John 10:25-30; Romans 8:34-36)

We were saved by an act of God and there’s nothing that we can do, say or think to unseal what God has sealed.

“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand."
(John 10:28)
