First Cause of Our
Salvation
Our God is Awesome!
It is
an undisputable fact according to the book of John, that it is God's action,
not ours that is primary in salvation.
God, the Father gives those of His choosing to Jesus Christ his Son, a
process referred to as Divine Election. It
is then Jesus who holds on to them, in obedience to the Father's will. God loved us so much and desired a
relationship with us, His created beings, that he spared not even His precious
Son to draw us to Himself. He does this
in spite of our human sinful nature which separates us from God. When left to our own devices, we choose not
to seek after God or His ways (Romans 3: 10-18). In fact, as the apostle Paul writes in the
book of Romans, that even when we want to do good, evil is right there with us
(Romans 7:21)
And, as if choosing believers wasn't amazing enough, just think about it
occurring even before the creation of the world!
Jesus
prays in John 17 for himself, his disciples
given to him and for all believers -those who have believed the word given them
- that they may be one, as He and the Father are
one. There is a great distinction made
between those who know God and the world that does not. For those who have been saved, our life is
not our own. God has a purpose and a
plan for each of us. God's plan to save
lost sinners was made in eternity past, let us therefore live our lives
presently that we were called to live - holy and pleasing to God - until He
calls us home in eternity future.
